Ridgefield has been the home of many people from its founding in 1708. These
families, collectively, have left thousands of descendants. Some stayed in town,
some moved to the surrounding communities and others "went West.
" An important part of the Ridgefield Historical Society is answering the
requests of the current descendants to learn more about their Ridgefield
ancestors. This is the role of the Genealogy Committee.
Committee meetings
The Genealogical Committee meets in the Scott House
monthly. All members of the Society are
welcome to attend. Please call in advance to let us know that you are planning
to attend a meeting.
Reference library
A reference library in the Scott House includes books on Ridgefield, cemetery
records and a growing collection of family records. If you have ancestors from
Ridgefield and would like to donate a copy of your family history, please
contact the society.
Search service
The Genealogy Committee provides, for a fee, a search service. We will research
the records of the society, the town records, and church records. The fee is $15
per hour for members and $25 per hour for non-members. If you would like to have
a search performed, please click here to send send
us the request form.
Online queries
The committee also provides a free online query page where you can post
genealogical questions about Ridgefield families or even questions about
Ridgefield history. Click here to go to Query Page.
