Biographical Note:
Moved to Ridgefield in 1966
Born in 1934 into a Jewish family in a peasant village in what was then Czechoslovakia. Her mother died when Gabby was 2 years old. Her grandmother came to live with them to help raise Gabby and her sister and brother.
Her father had a small shop and also worked as a part time Rabbi. He could see that life in their village was going to get very difficult for Jews and he planned his family’s escape. Gabby’s family managed to leave Czechoslovakia and to go to Budapest, Hungary to live with relatives.
In this clip Gabby spoke of her memories as a young girl living in Hungary.
