Born: Amien, France Nov. 17, 1908
Helene Merrick helped run a little known program called the Women’s Land Army.
The Women’s Land Army began at the University of CT. The idea was conceived by Eleanor Roosevelt. It’s purpose was to train women to be farm workers, so that men that who were doing that essential work could go and fight in World War II.
In this clip, Helene explained how the Women’s Land Army got its start.
